Wheel and tyre reference charts
Lug nut torque chart
Factory wheel nut and bolt torque for every car in our guides, in newton-metres and pound-feet. Tighten in a star pattern with a calibrated torque wrench, and check again after the first 50 to 100 miles.
The 159 cars listed range from 98 to 204 Nm (72 to 150 lb-ft). The most common figures are 120 Nm, 140 Nm, 108 Nm.

Figures are for the original fasteners on factory wheels. Aftermarket wheels, nuts or bolts can need a different figure; follow the wheel maker's instructions and your handbook.
Explained in our guides
- Vibration or rubbing after new wheels: what to check firstNew wheels shaking at speed, or tyres catching on full lock or over bumps? Work through the common causes in order, from balancing and hub fit to offset and arch clearance.
- Wheel spacers: safety checks and how to choose a sizeCalculate spacer effects on offset and track width, distinguish slip-on and bolt-on systems, and check hub engagement, fasteners and moving clearance.
- Hub-centric vs lug-centric wheels: choosing hub ringsLearn what hub rings do, how to specify their inner and outer diameters, and why centring, wheel seats and vibration need separate checks.
Questions
Should I torque wheel nuts dry or lubricated?
Unless the maker says otherwise, torque figures assume clean, dry threads. Oil or grease on the threads raises the clamping force at the same torque and can overstretch studs or bolts.
Do I need to re-torque after fitting wheels?
It's good practice to recheck after 50 to 100 miles (80 to 160 km), especially with new or alloy wheels, as the seats can bed in.
Can I use an impact gun?
Only to run nuts or bolts up loosely. Final tightening should be by hand with a calibrated torque wrench, in a star pattern, in two or three stages.
