Honda NSX NA1 wheel fitment

The early NSX has staggered wheel diameters as well as tyre widths. Owners often move to 17-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, while preserving a suitable front-to-rear rolling-diameter relationship for the traction control.

Popular community setups

Starting points for a build. Read the notes with each setup, especially if your car is lowered or has different brakes.

17-inch front and rear

Front
17 × 8 inch, ET40 · 215/40 R17
Rear
17 × 9.5 inch, ET36 · 265/40 R17

NSX Prime owners document this combination. Confirm tyre diameter compatibility with the traction control and check clearance on lowered cars.

17/18-inch road setup

Front
17 × 8 inch, ET38 · 215/40 R17
Rear
18 × 9.5 inch, ET40 · 265/35 R18

A repeatedly documented NSX Prime combination. It retains a taller rear tyre than the front; check the exact tyre model and ride height rather than assuming every 17/18 set fits.

Width and offset guidance

Offset range

Check the exact setup

There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.

Common width limit

Measure before ordering

A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.

These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.

Clearance notes

  • NSX specialist data gives 70.1 mm front and 64.1 mm rear hub bores. Honda's German tyre approval sheet lists 67 mm without separating the axles; because these conflict, no single bore is populated. Confirm both actual hubs before ordering rings.
  • The early Honda body repair manual specifies 110 Nm (80 lb ft). Later references sometimes convert the same imperial figure to 108 Nm; the early manual value is used here.
  • Keep compatible front and rear tyre rolling diameters for the original traction-control system.
  • Check brake clearance by model year. A wheel that fits the early brakes is not automatically suitable for the larger 1997 brakes.
  • Check full steering lock and suspension travel with the car loaded. Match wheel load rating, tyre load and speed ratings, fastener seats and brake clearance.

Questions

What is the early NSX bolt pattern?

5x114.3, with M12x1.5 wheel nuts.

Can I fit 17-inch front and 18-inch rear NSX wheels?

Yes. Owners document 17x8 ET38 with 215/40 R17 front and 18x9.5 ET40 with 265/35 R18 rear tyres.

Why does tyre diameter matter on an NSX?

The original traction control compares wheel speeds. An unsuitable front-to-rear rolling-diameter relationship can cause unwanted intervention.

What wheels did the early NA1 have?

The 1990–1993 package was 15x6.5 ET55 front and 16x8 ET60 rear. From 1994, the usual package became 16x7 ET55 and 17x8.5 ET60.

What size tyres does the Honda NSX NA1 have?

Factory tyre (tire) sizes for the 1990–1997 Honda NSX NA1 are 205/50 R15, 225/50 R16, 215/45 R16 and 245/40 R17, depending on trim, with wider rears on staggered setups. Your tyre placard shows the size for your car.

What wheel size does the Honda NSX NA1 use?

Factory wheels are 15 × 6.5 inch, 16 × 8 inch, 16 × 7 inch and 17 × 8.5 inch, depending on trim. The stock table lists the offset for each.

What is the Honda NSX NA1 wheel nut torque?

110 Nm (about 81 lb-ft) for the original nuts. Confirm in your handbook, especially with aftermarket wheels or nuts.
