The Mk4 Golf has a large OEM-wheel and lowered-car following. Its 5x100 mounting pattern is different from the later Golf, and the original wheel size varies substantially between ordinary models, GTIs and the R32.

Read these before choosing wheels for the Golf: they explain the offset, fitment and hub numbers in this guide.
Starting points for a build. Read the notes with each setup, especially if your car is lowered or has different brakes.
A documented Golf IV owner setup. Rear spacers appear in some builds, but their thickness depends on ride height and remaining arch clearance.
Reported on lowered Mk4s. Trial-fit against the front strut and both arches; some examples use spacers, so the nominal wheel size alone does not guarantee the same result.
Check the exact setup
There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.
Measure before ordering
A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.
These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.

These tools start with the Mainstream models, 15-inch Avus package front size. Choose your own trim or axle in the calculator if it differs.
The Mk4 hatchback and estate use 5x100, with a 57.1 mm centre bore. The Mk5 changed to 5x112.
M14x1.5 bolts, with ball seats on factory wheels, tightened to 120 Nm.
225/40 R18 is used on the factory Anniversary package and documented 18x8 aftermarket setups.
It is a documented size, but front strut clearance, ride height and any spacers must be checked on the car. Do not assume every lowered Mk4 has the same clearance.
Factory wheels are 15 × 6 inch, 16 × 6.5 inch, 17 × 7 inch and 18 × 7.5 inch, depending on trim. The stock table lists the offset for each.
57.1 mm. Aftermarket wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings sized to it.
120 Nm (about 89 lb-ft) for the original bolts. Confirm in your handbook, especially with aftermarket wheels or bolts.
This guide is a starting point, not a fitment guarantee. Specs can differ by market, trim and previous modifications. Confirm all sizes, clearances and fastener requirements with a qualified wheel and tyre professional before buying or fitting parts.
