Cupra Formentor 1st gen (KM) wheel fitment

The Formentor is a low-slung crossover on the same MQB Evo hardware as the Leon, with fairly wide 245-section factory tyres. The usual upgrade is a 20-inch wheel with a lower offset and a drop on springs or coilovers to close the arch gap. VZ5 owners start from 20 inches already and mostly change design rather than size.

Popular community setups

Starting points for a build. Read the notes with each setup, especially if your car is lowered or has different brakes.

20-inch flush on springs

Front and rear
20 × 9 inch, ET35 · 245/35 R20

Described by an owner in the wheel trade as the ideal 20-inch fitment, run on 50 mm H&R lowering springs. LFI lists the same 9x20 ET35 square size with 245/35 R20 XL tyres. Check spoke clearance on VZ models with big brakes.

20-inch aggressive on coilovers

Front and rear
20 × 9 inch, ET30 · 245/35 R20

Owners report this fits well with roughly 30 to 35 mm of lowering on KW coilovers. One owner needed 2 mm spacers on one wheel design for brake clearance, and some run a 245/30 R20 tyre instead.

20-inch with VZ5 tyre size

Front and rear
20 × 8.5 inch, ET35 · 255/35 R20

Run by an owner on KW V3 coilovers. Uses the VZ5 factory tyre size on a wheel 5 mm further out than the VZ5 factory offset.

Width and offset guidance

Offset range

Check the exact setup

There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.

Common width limit

Measure before ordering

A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.

These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.

Clearance notes

  • Factory wheels use M14x1.5 ball-seat bolts. Aftermarket wheels usually need cone-seat bolts of the right length.
  • Use 140 Nm on steel and alloy wheels, as stated in the Formentor owner's manual.
  • VZ models have larger front brakes: owners report Brembo calipers on VZ cars, and Cupra lists Akebono brakes on the VZ5. Check spoke and barrel clearance for the specific wheel design, not just the diameter.
  • All factory sizes share ET40, so the common aftermarket ET30 to ET35 range moves the wheel 5 to 10 mm further out before any width change.
  • Wheels with a larger bore need 57.1 mm spigot rings.
  • Lower offsets and 9-inch widths are normally combined with lowering; arch coverage rules for road approval vary by country.
  • Check full steering lock and suspension travel with the car loaded. Match wheel load rating, tyre load and speed ratings, fastener seats and brake clearance.

Questions

What is the bolt pattern of the Cupra Formentor?

5x112 with a 57.1 mm centre bore. It uses M14x1.5 wheel bolts tightened to 140 Nm.

What wheel size does the Formentor VZ5 use?

8.5Jx20 ET40 with 255/35 R20 tyres on all four corners.

Will 20-inch wheels fit a standard Formentor?

Yes. 9x20 ET35 with 245/35 R20 tyres is a common choice, usually paired with lowering springs or coilovers.

Are Formentor and Leon wheels interchangeable?

Both use 5x112 and a 57.1 mm bore, so they bolt on. Leon wheels have higher offsets (ET46 to ET49) and narrower factory tyres, so they sit further inside the Formentor's arches.

What size tyres does the Cupra Formentor 1st gen (KM) have?

Factory tyre (tire) sizes for the 2020–present Cupra Formentor 1st gen (KM) are 245/45 R18, 245/40 R19 and 255/35 R20, depending on trim. Your tyre placard shows the size for your car.

What is the Cupra Formentor 1st gen (KM) centre bore?

57.1 mm. Aftermarket wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings sized to it.

What is the Cupra Formentor 1st gen (KM) wheel bolt torque?

140 Nm (about 103 lb-ft) for the original bolts. Confirm in your handbook, especially with aftermarket wheels or bolts.
