Volkswagen Transporter T6 / T6.1 wheel fitment

The T6 and T6.1 are commonly fitted with larger alloys for road use or camper conversions. Wheel and tyre load ratings matter as much as size, particularly on T32 vans and heavily equipped campers.

18-inch road and camper package

Front and rear
18 × 8.5 inch, ET45 · 255/45 R18

A retailer-supplied KV4 package using 103Y XL tyres. Check the wheel certificate and plated axle loads, especially on a T32 or converted camper.

20-inch road package, excluding T32

Front and rear
20 × 8.5 inch, ET45 · 275/40 R20

Vanstyle supplies this with 106 XL tyres. Its Calibre Exile-R wheel is rated at 815 kg and explicitly excludes T32 vans. Check clearance if lowered and verify the individual axle loads.

Width and offset guidance

Offset range

Check the exact setup

There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.

Common width limit

Measure before ordering

A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.

These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.

Clearance notes

  • The 180 Nm figure applies to the factory wheel and bolt installation. Aftermarket wheel certificates may specify different bolts and torque, so follow the complete approved installation rather than mixing instructions.
  • Factory bolts use a spherical seat. Aftermarket wheels may require conical seats and a different bolt length.
  • Use the axle weights on the vehicle plate to establish wheel and tyre capacity. A suitable tyre load index does not compensate for an under-rated wheel.
  • The Devonport row uses ET55 from genuine wheel listings; a forum summary gives ET56. Check the wheel part number and casting before buying a used set.
  • The 16-inch package is not suitable for every brake option. Confirm brake clearance on higher-output and heavier variants.
  • Some factory 16-inch packages use 205/65 R16C instead. Check the tyre placard, load index and vehicle approval for the exact van.
  • Check full steering lock and suspension travel with the car loaded. Match wheel load rating, tyre load and speed ratings, fastener seats and brake clearance.

Questions

What bolt pattern does the T6 Transporter use?

T6 and T6.1 use 5x120 with a 65.1 mm centre bore and M14x1.5 wheel bolts.

What is the factory wheel bolt torque?

The factory installation uses 180 Nm. An aftermarket wheel and fitting kit must follow their own approved instructions.

Can I fit any 20-inch wheel to a T32?

No. The wheel and tyre must both meet the plated axle loads. The 815 kg Calibre Exile-R example in this guide is explicitly unsuitable for T32.

What tyres suit the factory Devonport wheels?

The documented 17x7 ET55 packages include 235/55 R17 and 215/60 R17C. Use the load and speed ratings approved for the individual van.

What wheel size does the Volkswagen Transporter T6 / T6.1 use?

Factory wheels are 16 × 6.5 inch, 17 × 7 inch and 18 × 8 inch, depending on trim. The stock table lists the offset for each.

What is the Volkswagen Transporter T6 / T6.1 centre bore?

65.1 mm. Aftermarket wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings sized to it.
