Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7 wheel fitment

The Mk7 GTI is commonly fitted with wider 17 or 18-inch wheels for road and track use. Brake package, tyre width and front arch clearance matter more than wheel diameter alone.

5x112 bolt pattern · 57.1 mm centre bore · Stock wheels: 17 × 7.5, 18 × 7.5, 19 × 7.5, 19 × 8 inch · Stock tyres: 225/45 R17, 225/40 R18, 225/35 R19, 235/35 R19

Popular community setups

Starting points for a build. Read the notes with each setup, especially if your car is lowered or has different brakes.

18-inch daily

Front and rear
18 × 8.5 inch, ET43 · 235/40 R18

Apex street fitment with no routine arch work. Lowered cars and unusually wide tyre models still need a clearance check.

17-inch road and track

Front and rear
17 × 8.5 inch, ET43 · 235/45 R17

Documented Apex fitment, including its brake-clearing wheel designs. Do not assume every 17-inch barrel clears the Performance brakes.

Wider track setup

Front and rear
18 × 9 inch, ET42 · 255/35 R18

Apex track fitment. Front arch screw modification and additional negative camber may be needed, particularly with wide track tyres.

Width and offset guidance

Offset range

Check the exact setup

There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.

Common width limit

Measure before ordering

A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.

These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.

Clearance notes

  • Factory wheels use ball-seat bolts. Match the bolt seat and length to the replacement wheel; a matching thread alone is not sufficient.
  • A larger aftermarket centre bore needs correctly sized hub rings; a smaller bore will not seat on the hub.
  • The 18-inch factory offset varies by wheel design and market. Some databases list ET51; the Austin package listed here is ET49. Identify the wheel by its casting before matching a set.
  • Performance, Clubsport and TCR brake packages need a wheel-specific brake clearance check.
  • Very wide rear tyres can contact the fuel filler area on the GTI; the Golf R has a different arrangement.
  • Check full steering lock and suspension travel with the car loaded. Match wheel load rating, tyre load and speed ratings, fastener seats and brake clearance.

Questions

What is the bolt pattern of the Mk7 Golf GTI?

It is 5x112, with a 57.1 mm centre bore and M14x1.5 wheel bolts.

What torque do Mk7 GTI wheel bolts need?

The factory specification is 120 Nm.

Will 17-inch wheels fit a Mk7 GTI with Performance brakes?

Some do. Apex lists its 17x8.5 ET43 wheels for this application, but spoke and barrel clearance must be confirmed for the exact wheel.

What tyres suit 18x8.5 wheels on a Mk7 GTI?

235/40 R18 is a documented road fitment. Wider tyres need a separate check against ride height, alignment and arch clearance.

What wheel size does the Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7 use?

Factory wheels are 17 × 7.5 inch, 18 × 7.5 inch, 19 × 7.5 inch and 19 × 8 inch, depending on trim. The stock table lists the offset for each.

What is the Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7 centre bore?

57.1 mm. Aftermarket wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings sized to it.
