Toyota 4Runner 5th gen (N280) wheel fitment

The N280 4Runner has a large community using 17-inch wheels and all-terrain tyres. Factory TRD wheels provide a modest change in stance, while wider 33-inch combinations often require clearance work as well as a lift.

Width and offset guidance

Offset range

Check the exact setup

There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.

Common width limit

Measure before ordering

A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.

These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.

Clearance notes

  • There is no generation-wide torque value in this file. The 2010 manual gives 110 Nm, while later manuals specify 103 Nm for aluminium wheels and 112 Nm for steel wheels. Toyota TRD alloy instructions specify 103 Nm. Follow the manual and instructions applicable to the fitted wheel.
  • Some databases give 113 or 131 Nm indiscriminately; the Toyota year-specific instructions take precedence.
  • The TRD Pro stock row refers to the documented ET4 design, not every later TRD-branded wheel.
  • Match the wheel nut seat to the wheel. A nominally correct six-stud wheel may still have the wrong bore or nut seat.
  • Lift height does not remove the need to test tyre clearance through full suspension travel.
  • Check full steering lock and suspension travel with the car loaded. Match wheel load rating, tyre load and speed ratings, fastener seats and brake clearance.

Questions

What is the fifth-generation 4Runner bolt pattern?

It uses 6x139.7, a 106.1 mm centre bore and M12x1.5 wheel nuts.

Will 285/70 R17 tyres fit without rubbing?

Rubbing depends on offset, alignment and suspension travel. A typical 17x8.5 ET0 build may need liners, mudflaps and body-mount clearance addressed.

Can a Limited use 17-inch wheels?

Suitable 4Runner-specific 17-inch wheels are available. Confirm brake clearance and use a tyre diameter appropriate to the vehicle.

What is the correct wheel nut torque?

Check the model-year manual. Later factory alloy installations and Toyota TRD instructions specify 103 Nm; early manuals and steel wheels have different values.

What size tyres does the Toyota 4Runner 5th gen (N280) have?

Factory tyre (tire) sizes for the 2010–2024 Toyota 4Runner 5th gen (N280) are 265/70 R17 and 245/60 R20, depending on trim. Your tyre placard shows the size for your car.
