This guide covers the six-stud four-wheel-drive GMT400 Yukon, including the two-door models and the Yukon GT appearance package, which share the same hubs as the four-door. Owners usually keep 16-inch wheels and step up to 285/75 R16 all-terrains with the torsion bars raised, while wider low-offset wheels generally need a lift and some trimming.

Quick specs
GMC Yukon 1st gen (GMT400) hub and fastener specifications
Several GMT400 forum owners run this on the factory 16-inch wheels with the torsion bars turned up by up to about 2 inches. Most report no rubbing; a few see light contact at full lock.
Reported on a 1999 Yukon Denali with a rear leaf added and the torsion bars raised for roughly 1.5 to 2 inches of lift. The owner trimmed a little from the bumper and running board edges to stop rubbing.
Recommended on the Tahoe Yukon Forum as clearing the control arm with 285s, and listed on a levelled 1999 Tahoe in the Custom Offsets gallery. The Tahoe shares the Yukon's four-wheel-drive hubs.
Run by a 1999 four-door Tahoe 4x4 owner on the Tahoe Yukon Forum with a 2-inch front levelling kit and a 1.5-inch rear block. It needed the front bumper bent and the rear arch trimmed.
Width and offset guidance
Offset range
Check the exact setup
There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.
Common width limit
Measure before ordering
A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.
These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.
Clearance notes
Two-wheel-drive GMT400 Yukons use a five-stud 5x127 pattern on 15-inch wheels, so this six-stud guide does not apply to them.
Sources disagree on the factory offset. Wheel databases quote figures from about ET31 to ET44 for the 16-inch wheels, and steel 16x6.5 wheels were also fitted, so measure your own wheel before comparing.
Published centre bore figures are 78.1 mm or 78.3 mm. A wheel bored for the 78.1 mm GM hub fits; larger bores need hub-centric rings.
GM's wheel nut torque changed during the run: forum owners quote 120 lb-ft (about 163 Nm) from early manuals and 140 lb-ft (about 190 Nm) from 1996-on manuals. Check the manual for your year.
Raising the torsion bars adds front clearance but increases wear on ball joints and other front-end parts, and an alignment is needed afterwards.
Owners report that offset matters more than tyre size: wide, positive-offset wheels rub the frame and control arms before the arches.
Check full steering lock and suspension travel with the car loaded. Match wheel load rating, tyre load and speed ratings, fastener seats and brake clearance.

The GT was a four-wheel-drive two-door, so it uses 6x139.7 with M14x1.5 wheel nuts, the same as other 4WD GMT400 Yukons.
Do two-wheel-drive Yukons take the same wheels?+
No. Two-wheel-drive GMT400 Yukons use a 5x127 pattern, so six-stud 4WD wheels will not fit them.
What is the biggest tyre on the factory wheels?+
Owners commonly run 285/75 R16 on the factory 16-inch wheels with the torsion bars raised a little. Expect light rubbing at full lock on some trucks.
Will Tahoe or Suburban wheels fit?+
Wheels from a four-wheel-drive GMT400 Tahoe, Suburban or K1500 share the 6x139.7 pattern and hub, so they bolt on. Check the offset, as factory wheels varied.
What size tyres does the GMC Yukon 1st gen (GMT400) have?+
Factory tyre (tire) sizes for the 1992–1999 GMC Yukon 1st gen (GMT400) are 245/75 R16 and 265/75 R16, depending on trim. Your tyre placard shows the size for your car.
What wheel size does the GMC Yukon 1st gen (GMT400) use?+
Factory wheels are 16 × 7 inch, depending on trim. The stock table lists the offset for each.
What is the GMC Yukon 1st gen (GMT400) centre bore?+
78.1 mm. Aftermarket wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings sized to it.
