The fifth-generation RAV4 is a high-volume SUV, and its most common wheel change is a move to slightly taller all-terrain tyres on 17-inch wheels for gravel and light trail use. Factory wheels run from 17 to 19 inches, with 20s on some markets and plug-in models.
A 2021 RAV4 XLE owner on ToyotaNation's 5th-gen forum runs 245/65 R17 all-terrain tyres on the factory wheels and reports no rubbing, and says it is the size most owners use.
Another owner in the same RAV4World thread runs KMC 17x8 ET38 wheels with 245/65 R17 all-terrain tyres.
Width and offset guidance
Offset range
Check the exact setup
There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.
Common width limit
Measure before ordering
A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.
These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.
Clearance notes
A 245/65 R17 is about 3.6% taller than the factory 225/65 R17, so the speedometer will read slightly low.
In the RAV4World thread, one owner fitted a 2-inch lift before moving to 245/65 R17, and another runs 17x8 ET20 wheels with LT245/65 R17 tyres. Lower offsets than ET35 push the tyre towards the arch liner.
Grades with 18 or 19-inch wheels can use 17-inch wheels if the brakes clear. Check with the wheel maker's brake template first.
The hub bore is 60.1 mm and the wheel nuts are M12x1.5, torqued to 103 Nm. Wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings.
