Ford Mustang S197 wheel fitment

The S197 Mustang left the factory on 16 to 19-inch wheels, with the Shelby GT500 and Boss 302 using wider staggered tyres. Owners commonly move to 18 or 19-inch wheels around 9 to 9.5 inches wide, and Ford's own GT500 and Brembo-package wheels are a popular bolt-on upgrade for GTs and V6 cars.

Shelby GT500 18s all round

Front and rear
18 × 9.5 inch, ET45 · 275/40 R18

An owner in a Mustang Source thread on 18-inch wheels for a 2011 GT runs factory 2007–2009 GT500 wheels, 18x9.5 ET45, on all four corners with 275/40 R18 tyres and calls the fit spot on. Another owner in a separate thread runs 18x9.5 ET45 SVT wheels all round.

Brembo-package 19s with a wider rear tyre

Front
19 × 9 inch, ET42 · 255/40 R19
Rear
19 × 9 inch, ET42 · 275/40 R19

In a Mustang Source thread on staggered tyres for a 2013 V6, an owner on the factory 19x9 Brembo wheels keeps the standard 255/40 R19 at the front with 275/40 R19 at the rear, and says a 265/40 R19 also fitted the rear well.

Width and offset guidance

Offset range

Check the exact setup

There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.

Common width limit

Measure before ordering

A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.

These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.

Clearance notes

  • All S197s, including the GT500 and Boss 302, use 5x114.3 with 1/2"-20 studs. Ford Performance sells its 2005–2014 Mustang wheel nuts in 1/2"-20 with a cone seat; match the seat to the wheel.
  • Hub bore figures vary slightly between databases, from 70.3 to 70.6 mm. A 70.5 mm figure is the most commonly listed; aftermarket wheels with a 73.1 mm bore need hub-centric rings.
  • Ford's factory 19x9 Brembo wheels sit at ET42 and the GT500 18x9.5 wheels at ET45. Both are popular because they bolt on without spacers.
  • Cars with the Brembo package, the GT500 or the Boss 302 have larger front brakes. An aftermarket wheel of the same diameter may not clear the calipers, so check the wheel maker's brake fitment for your car.
  • Owners report that a 10-inch front wheel is tight against the strut on many offsets, and 285-section front tyres can touch the inner liner at full lock. Most owners stay at 9 to 9.5 inches up front.
  • 2010–2014 V6 cars are also listed on 225/60 R17 and 215/60 R17 tyres on the same 17x7 ET40 wheel, depending on year and option.
  • Check full steering lock and suspension travel with the car loaded. Match wheel load rating, tyre load and speed ratings, fastener seats and brake clearance.
