The FD came with 16-inch square wheels or wider staggered 17-inch packages on later performance versions. Owners use both square track setups and staggered road wheels, with arch work often needed as width increases.

Updated 2026-10-04 · Medium source confidence. Check your exact trim and market. How we check specs
An owner reports Enkei PF01SS wheels, Ground Control suspension, a small ride-height reduction and approximately -2 degrees front / -1.5 degrees rear camber without rolled arches. This result is specific to that installation.
Wider staggered 17-inch setup
Front
17 × 9.5 inch, ET38
Rear
17 × 10 inch, ET38
An RPF1 owner reports rolled arches all round and a 5 mm front spacer, giving effective front ET33. Reported tyre widths were 255 front and 275 rear, but complete tyre sizes were not stated.

Offset range
Check the exact setup
There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.
Common width limit
Measure before ordering
A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.
These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.
Clearance notes
Mazda’s service-bulletin torque table gives 89–117 Nm for wheel nuts. Owner references quote a similar imperial range with slightly different rounding; the manufacturer’s Nm range is retained.
Later Type RS and RZ wheel packages are not the same as the original 16-inch package. Brake conversions require a separate clearance check.
The wider owner example includes both rolled arches and a front spacer. Wheel width and offset alone do not reproduce that fitment.

Were FD RX-7 wheels staggered from the factory?+
The 16-inch package was square. Later 17-inch Type RS and RZ packages used 8J fronts and 8.5J rears with different tyre sizes.
Can an FD run 255 tyres on all four corners?+
Yes, a documented example uses 255/40 R17 tyres on 17x9 ET48 wheels with adjusted camber and aftermarket suspension. It is not a guarantee for every 255 tyre or suspension setup.
What size tyres does the Mazda RX-7 FD3S have?+
Factory tyre (tire) sizes for the 1992–2002 Mazda RX-7 FD3S are 225/50 R16, 235/45 R17 and 255/40 R17, depending on trim, with wider rears on staggered setups. Your tyre placard shows the size for your car.
What wheel size does the Mazda RX-7 FD3S use?+
Factory wheels are 16 × 8 inch, 17 × 8 inch and 17 × 8.5 inch, depending on trim. The stock table lists the offset for each.
What is the Mazda RX-7 FD3S centre bore?+
67.1 mm. Aftermarket wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings sized to it.
