Subaru Impreza WRX / WRX STI GE/GH/GR/GV wheel fitment

The third-generation Impreza covers the hatchback and saloon WRX and STI, including the wide-arch cars from 2011. Most owners go to 18x9.5 wheels with 265/35 R18 tyres, so offset choice and arch rolling matter more than diameter. The WRX and STI hubs are drilled differently, which catches people out when buying used wheels.

Popular community setups

Starting points for a build. Read the notes with each setup, especially if your car is lowered or has different brakes.

18x9.5 ET38 on 265s

Front and rear
18 × 9.5 inch, ET38 · 265/35 R18

The most common aggressive size on this chassis. ThreePiece's GR/GV fitment roundup includes a 2013 STI saloon on 18x9.5 ET38 Gram Lights with 265/35 R18 tyres and the arches rolled all round. Expect to roll the arches, and add negative camber if the car is lowered.

18x9.5 ET45 on 265s

Front and rear
18 × 9.5 inch, ET45 · 265/35 R18

A slightly more tucked version of the same size. The ThreePiece roundup includes a WRX saloon on 18x9.5 ET45 Enkei wheels with 265/35 R18 tyres on coilovers, with front and rear arches rolled and no rubbing reported.

18x9.5 ET42 on 265s

Front and rear
18 × 9.5 inch, ET42 · 265/35 R18

FastWRX recommends this size for the 2011–2014 WRX and 2008–2014 STI, and says it needs minor rolling of the rear arches.

17x9 ET42 for the WRX

Front and rear
17 × 9 inch, ET42 · 245/40 R17

FastWRX lists 17x9 ET42 with 245/40 R17 or 255/40 R17 for the 2011–2014 WRX and the STI. It suits WRX owners wanting cheaper 17-inch tyres; on an STI, only 17-inch designs made to clear the Brembos will fit.

Width and offset guidance

Offset range

ET35 to ET55

Factory wheels are ET53 to ET55 and most aftermarket fitments sit between ET35 and ET48. FastWRX warns that ET30 and lower will not fit without major changes.

Common width limit

Measure before ordering

A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.

These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.

Clearance notes

  • US-market WRX models use 5x100 and US STI models use 5x114.3. Check the hub drilling rather than assuming from the badge, especially on imported or converted cars.
  • Both versions use a 56.1 mm centre bore and M12x1.25 nuts, so most aftermarket wheels need hub-centric rings.
  • The 2008–2010 WRX came on 17x7 wheels with 205/50 R17 tyres in 2008 and 225/45 R17 from 2009. Sources disagree on whether the offset is ET53 or ET55, so we have left that version out of the factory list.
  • The STI's Brembo calipers rule out most 17-inch wheels. Use the wheel maker's STI fitment or brake template; a 17-inch wheel that fits a WRX may not fit an STI.
  • With 265/35 R18 tyres, plan on rolling at least the rear arches. Lowered cars often need extra negative camber as well.
  • Torque figures quoted for this generation vary between sources, so we have not listed one. Use the figure in the owner's handbook for your car's market and year.
  • Check full steering lock and suspension travel with the car loaded. Match wheel load rating, tyre load and speed ratings, fastener seats and brake clearance.

Questions

What is the bolt pattern of a 2008–2014 WRX and STI?

The WRX is 5x100 and the STI is 5x114.3. Both have a 56.1 mm centre bore and M12x1.25 wheel nuts.

What is the most popular wheel size for a GR or GV STI?

18x9.5 with 265/35 R18 tyres, usually at ET38 to ET45. The lower offsets normally need rolled arches and, when lowered, extra camber.

Do 2011–2014 WRX wheels fit an STI?

No. The WRX's 17x8 ET53 wheels are drilled 5x100, while the STI is 5x114.3, and the factory WRX wheel does not clear the STI's Brembo brakes.

What are the factory STI wheels?

18x8.5 ET55 with 245/40 R18 tyres throughout 2008–2014, including the BBS wheels fitted to some versions.

What size tyres does the Subaru Impreza WRX / WRX STI GE/GH/GR/GV have?

Factory tyre (tire) sizes for the 2007–2014 Subaru Impreza WRX / WRX STI GE/GH/GR/GV are 245/40 R18 and 235/45 R17, depending on trim. Your tyre placard shows the size for your car.

What is the Subaru Impreza WRX / WRX STI GE/GH/GR/GV centre bore?

56.1 mm. Aftermarket wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings sized to it.
