Subaru Forester SG wheel fitment

The second-generation Forester came on 15, 16 or 17-inch wheels at ET48, with 18s on the Japanese-market STi Version. Owners tend to go one of two ways: taller all-terrain tyres, often with a small lift, or lower and wider for turbocharged XT builds.

16-inch wheels with 215/70 R16 all-terrains

Front and rear
16 × 6.5 inch, ET48 · 215/70 R16

215/70 R16 is the usual taller tyre for SG owners heading off road. Offroadium's Forester guide lists it for the SG with slight rubbing on an unlifted car, and Rallitek lists it as a standard size for a 1–3 inch lift. It is about 6% taller than the factory 215/60 R16, so the speedometer will under-read.

Width and offset guidance

Offset range

Check the exact setup

There is no confirmed range for this car yet. Compare a known wheel with your proposed size and measure both sides.

Common width limit

Measure before ordering

A maximum width has not been confirmed. Tyre shape, ride height and alignment all change the available space.

These figures belong to the setups described here. Combining the widest wheel with either end of the offset range does not guarantee a safe fit. For how ET moves the wheel in and out, read wheel offset explained; for how far the tyre can sit out, see flush, poke and tucked fitment.

Clearance notes

  • Every factory wheel listed for the SG is ET48, apart from some 17 and 18-inch sizes at ET42 to ET45, so a much lower offset moves the wheel well outward.
  • Taller tyres usually rub the front arch liner or mud flap near full lock first. Trimming the liner or flap is the common fix.
  • Rallitek suggests about ET15 for 15 and 16-inch wheels and about ET35 for 17s when fitting taller tyres on a lifted Forester. Lower offsets help a wider tyre clear the strut and spring seat.
  • Offroadium reports that 235/70 R15 needs a 2-inch lift plus liner and mud-flap trimming on an SG.
  • The hub is 56.1 mm. Wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings.
  • Wheel nuts are M12x1.25, a finer thread than many other makes use.
  • We have not confirmed Subaru's wheel-nut torque for the SG. Use the figure in the owner's handbook.
  • Check full steering lock and suspension travel with the car loaded. Match wheel load rating, tyre load and speed ratings, fastener seats and brake clearance.
